Porto to Lamego

Located in the upper Douro Valley, Lamego is covered in vineyards making it a great spot for all wine lovers. Lamego is a bit further out from Porto, taking on average 3 hours to arrive there, but if you leave early in the morning, you can make the most out of your time there!

How do I get from Porto to Lamego?

Train

Regardless of which train station you take in Porto, there is no direct route to Lamego via train. You will have to take the train to Regua, then take a 20-minute bus ride to Lamego via Expresso Lamego. The bus leaves every three hours from Regua, so make sure to check the schedule beforehand. As we have mentioned in previous articles, make sure to have your passport with you when taking the train.

From Porto Campanha to Regua, it takes about 2 hours with ticket prices ranging from 7.50€ to 9.80€ ($8.59-$11.22). The first train leaves at 6:35 AM and the last at 11:25 PM. Trains returning to Porto run from 5:30 AM to 9:08 PM. Both routes have trains leaving every 30 minutes.

Leaving from Sao Bento, it takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes to arrive in Regua. The tickets cost around 7.80€ to 10.65€ ($8.93 to $12.20). The first train is at 6:30 AM with the last leaving at 10:20 PM. The first train to return to Porto starts at 5:30 AM with the last returning at 9:08 PM. Similar to Porto Campanha, both routes have trains leaving every 30 minutes

Bus

Unlike the train, you can get to Lamego directly via bus in about three hours. Tickets cost around 11.50€ via rede-expressos. Buses start at 10 AM, with the last leaving at 8:15 PM. If you are trying to have a day trip to Lamego, the first return bus is at 7:15 AM and the last is at 5:15 PM. Taking the bus is likely the cheapest direct method of arriving to Lamego.  

Taxi

It takes about 1 hour and 16 minutes to drive from Porto to Lamego via taxi, but costs about 85€-110€ ($97.34 – $125.96). You may need to pay some extra cash to the taxi driver for their drive back to Porto, so keep in mind that this price may vary.

Car rental

Depending on how many people are in your group, this could be an easier method of taking a trip to Lamego. Similar to the taxi, it takes about 1 hour and 16 minutes, but will likely be cheaper. Some cars cost as low as $10 per day, but can cost up to $73 per day through Kayak. There may be some extra fees involved, so be aware that these prices could change.
