Lamego is famous for its wine making, especially for its sparkling wines. To get a unique experience, visit Caves da Raposeira – an underground cave where the wine’s secondary fermentation happens. This fermentation is what gives the wine its fizzy nature. You get to see the wine process while trying some as well.
Parque Biológico da Serra da Meada
This magical park is the perfect break from the city’s hustle and bustle. It is filled with amazing nature trails and also serves as a sanctuary for animals. Many animals are kept in this park until they are ready to be released into the wild, but a few live there permanently. It is the best way to see some lush greenery and some cute animals!
Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios
To arrive at this sanctuary takes a bit of work…686 steps to be exact. But the climb is well worth it! While taking the 686 steps to the sanctuary, you can take breaks in one of the nine patios that showcase the images of the 18 kings of Israel. Once you arrive at the top, not only can you see the spectacular altar of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (Our Lady of the Remedies), but can also visit the upper terrace. The terrace houses a beautiful chestnut tree that is over 700 years old!
