The closest airport to Albufeira is Faro which about 45km West along the coast. The quickest way to get to Albufeira from Faro is to drive or take a taxi. This should not take more than about 40 minutes and shouldn’t cost more than about €45 euro in taxi. Avoid taxis at the airport as some of them are overpriced. The best idea is to book an Uber which is now available in Portugal.
If you want to take public transport, this will be a challenge at Faro airport because there are no connections. You will find yourself needing to get a taxi from Faro airport to Faro City centre and then taking a bus or train from there.
The bus to Albufeira is a better option than train because the train will drop you are approximately 7km outside of the Centre of Albufeira, whereas the bus stops around 1 1/2 km from the historical centre. The busses do not run too late and so if your flight arrives later than around 7 PM private transfers are recommended.
